Meet Justin, the Inspector Behind JLK

We inspect every home the way we'd inspect our own, because we've been the buyer who trusted the wrong inspector.

Our Story

Justin spent 16 years in oil and gas. For most of it, he worked 6 to 8 weeks at a time, 7 days a week, averaging 105 hours a week. As his daughter got old enough to notice dad was gone, two weeks at home followed by another long rotation got harder on her. He was missing moments he couldn't get back.

So in 2019, he left the field and started his first inspection business in Alaska, building on the remodeling skills he learned working alongside one of his grandfathers. When his father passed, the family moved to Los Angeles to help care for his other grandfather. Justin worked for a Los Angeles inspection company while his wife cared for his grandfather, so he could pass in the same home his grandmother did.

After his grandfather's passing, the family came back to Texas for good. In 2023, Justin started JLK Inspection in Fulshear, where we live, worship and raise our daughter.

What Our Own Homes Taught Us

When Justin was promoted to the Houston office, he and his wife put most of their savings into the down payment on an older home. They hired an inspector who was supposed to be one of the best. He didn't walk the roof, didn't go into the attic, and never mentioned the galvanized water supply lines. He stuck to the minimum standard, and that was it.

They learned what an older home really needs, and what it costs, by fixing things themselves. Years later, when we moved back to the area, Justin inspected every Katy home we considered. Each one needed a lot of work because of its age, so we chose a new home in Fulshear instead.

That's the experience behind every inspection we do. We know what it feels like to spend your savings on a home and then find out what was missed.

How We Inspect

We go past the minimum, because the minimum is what failed us.

  • One inspection a day. Your home gets our full attention, and we're never rushing to the next appointment.

  • We walk every roof we safely can. We don't just look at it from the ground.

  • We go into every attic. We inspect from the floored walkway for safety and check everything visible from there.

  • We look at the home as a whole. If we find galvanized supply lines with no visible signs of aging, we still recommend a plumber evaluate them. In a home you plan to keep, they'll need to be replaced at some point.

  • We tell you how long things last. You'll know which systems are nearing the end of their life, so you can start saving now rather than being surprised later.

  • We walk you through your home. At the end, we go over the main concerns and show you your water shutoff, gas shutoff and main electrical panel. If you can't be there, we schedule a call to go over the report.

  • We're here after the report. Call us with questions, and your agent can too.

Caring for Your Home After the Inspection

Many of the problems we find when a home is sold are deferred maintenance the owners never knew about: a roof past its life, an aging water heater, or HVAC that hasn't been serviced in years. We learned this firsthand in our own older home. Small things left alone turned into big repairs.

That's why every client gets a free home maintenance book with their report. It's also why we created the JLK Home Maintenance Program. With a yearly inspection, you know how your home's systems are holding up, what to take care of first, and what to start saving for, so a future buyer's inspector never finds a surprise.
